Alex Charvat

The founding member and engineer behind Alexander Structures.  Alex is a native of Wisconsin and pursued both his Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry and his Master of Science Degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Wisconsin—Madison. He has worked at the Forest Products Lab in Madison, Wisconsin, spent two years as a Forester in Coos Bay,Oregon, and two years managing the engineering and design team for a large, well-known log-home company in Wisconsin.

He has worked for log home builders in Colorado and has engineered small cabins through 10,000+ square feet residential dream homes. He has made people’s dreams’ reality.

Alex has experience with both full and half-log designs and all national building codes. Alex is a member of the ASCE and the Log Home Council (www.loghomes.org) where he is the former Chairman of the Log Grading Committee. Alex is the Engineer of Record on the Log Home Council’s Log Grading Program.  Alex has also built his own log cabin and his own 3000 square foot log house – performing all labor from site layout through finishing.  Because of his experience, plans are engineered for what works on the job site, not what looks good on paper.

Depending on the company’s work load and required expertise, Alexander Structures contracts with other engineers, CAD drafters, and experts to ensure the utmost in quality, design, and engineering review, in a timely manner.

Alex Charvat is currently a registered Professional Engineer in Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Professional Engineering services are currently offered only in states in which we are licensed. Log home consulting, project management, construction services, CAD work, and International Code Council Evaluation Service documentation are offered in accordance with state and local laws, and may be offered in other jurisdictions.
